Uncharted territories. No one knew quite what to expect entering this tournament as the Digimon World PVP scene simply didn't exist until now. Competitors had ideas of what would work and what wouldn't, and it shows based off amount of Digimon selected who have access to a certain technique, but things didn't quite play out as expected. Coelamon was the Digimon that was most expected to take home the prize. It gained something of a reputation in circles online as the most competitively viable champion. For good reason as well. It's access to three techniques would seemingly give it a large competitive edge.

1. Ice Statue, perhaps the most powerful move in the game due to it's high power, relatively low MP cost, quick animation, and ability to inflict the powerful immobilizing stun effect.

2. Poison Claw, a cheap disruption attack with a high percent chance of inflicting poison, a status ailment that can tear through tanks.

3. Aqua Magic, a cheap buff that can be used to take up a third slot as to prevent the Digimon's AI from being inactive.

This isn't quite how things turned out though. Perhaps it's due to these assessments being made in regards to a max-stat meta, but Coelamon wasn't the end-all-be-all in this tournament. Shellmon, another Digimon with a very similar stat was able to flex it's viability with the ranged poison powder technique, a slight deviation to Coelamon's strategy. But it was another ice-attributed Digimon that took the inaugural W.

SydMontague's Frigimon took the tournament by surprise. Sure, it has Ice Statue, a move that is required to have a fighting chance in the current state of the meta, but it was his build that made him stand apart. SydMontague maxed out his Frigimon's defense stat and compensated for the sub-optimal attack stat by electing for 100 brains, enough to get his Frigimon to use a maximum of 2 muscle charges per fight, enough to max out his attack stat to send over any opposing Digimon who would use max defense themselves.
