Megalo Spark, Megalo Spark, Megalo Spark. This is all you need to know about how this tournament played out. Megalo Spark is such an overwhelmingly powerful move in the retail build of the game when it comes to rookie Digimon. Speed, power, stun chance, low MP cost. It has it all. And this wasn't unknown at all. Of the 14 entrants, more than half used a Digimon with access to Megalo Spark; Elecmon and Kunemon. This isn't to say that other Digimon weren't attempted. Patamon has access to the very destructive Buster Dive, Biyomon has the disruptive Wind Cutter, and the big surprise Digimon, Palmon, can run an arsenel of status inflicting moves. Despite all this, the tournament ultimately came down to the Megalo Sparkers. Elecmon was a heavy favorite due to having access to muscle charge and counter, making him indistinguishable from a Leomon build that you might see in the champions tier, but Kunemon had something Elecmon was missing. An elemental advantage. Kunemon's typing allowed it to take less of a beating from Cheesy's Elecmon's Megalo Sparks than Elecmon could handle from Daioh's Kunemon. This is all due to Kunemon having more resistance to air elements thanks to it's earth specialty. This favorable advantage led Daioh and their Kunemon becoming the first ever Rookie Cup winner.
